once upon a time - there were 4 little children who grew up in the backwoods of goodland, mn. they lived in a little house on a dirt road with an outhouse out back and a horse pasture for the yard. it was christmas eve circa ~1965. as they hustled in from the cold that christmas festivities entail and shed layers of sweaters and scarves their father paused and hushed everyone. "do you hear that? i hear bells! it's santa's jingle bells!" the children were wide-eyed in wonder, santa was outside! their father was soon rushing out the door and had his loaded shotgun in hand, "i'm gonna get him!" soon, several shots sounded off and their father re-entered the house. the firstborn son looked up at his father in disbelief and asked tearfully, "did you get him dad?" father replied, "nah i missed him, i'll get him next year." the children were able to breathe a sigh of relief, santa lived and they could sleep peacefully.
true story. that ornery father was my lovable grandpa.
