we came back early from a camping trip this last saturday at 2am due to severe thunderstorms. but in the day and half we were gone we had beautiful weather and got to enjoy a MN gem! i love jay cooke state park. soooo beautiful. we also made a quick trip (maybe three, eek!) to duluth while there. one trip on the way up to ride our bikes on the lakewalk:
another trip by bike on the munger trail. i do not recommend this unless you are somewhat conditioned. we biked 31.5 miles round trip - down the hill to duluth and back up to the state park. going down was so much fun and a breeze. but i knew i would be kicking myself on the way back up, and i was. the grade was so slight that you hardly noticed it on the way down the hill, but it proved for endless torture on the way back up:
which leads to our third trip to duluth. post 30+ mile bike ride we were too exhausted to do anymore hiking. so back we went for a bite at grandma's and watched a ship head out on the lake. in the end we did get to enjoy the park but missed out on pieces of it.
