one year old and river is the light of our lives. we are constantly exclaiming over his new talents and tricks. showering him with kisses and compliments, "you're so amazing!" and "you're so cute!" it's true. he is.
12 months finds us signing sporadically for mom - 'more' and 'please' seem to be understood.
he's started in on the imitation play and it melts me. he likes to dig the washrags and bibs out of the drawer in the kitchen. one day i found him 'washing' the floor under the table, the next day scrubbing his sippy cup and the next day the dog was victim of his cleanliness.
he has a mind like a steel trap, you may be able to distract him momentarily or for a good ten minutes. but as soon as you leave him alone he's back at the shenanigans you thought you had so effectively deterred.
pretty sure those one year molars are hiding in the wings, most nights there is about one waking. sometimes requiring mama's intervention sometimes resulting in a baby soothing himself back to sleep.
he loves to bring you books and snuggle into the crook of your arm - some of life's best moments right there. he still adores balls and has begun to kick them as well as throw.
music - he loves dancing and had started to turn in circles, so funny to watch his footing become more unsteady with each turn. his recorder is a hot item currently - he figured out how to make sound with it and he carries it around with a grin tooting his little song. humming - we were at the store the other day and he was on a roll. i didn't recognize the 'song' but he was certainly feeling chipper.

what a delightful little man! happy birthday River! I love see those cheeky grins and chubby hands holding crayons (a fav pastime around here too!)
He sure has grown up...his smile while standing on the chair is to die for! I love that he knows how to get a sound out of his recorder...what a smart little guy! Happy Birthday, River!
