nursery before

considering how exciting it is to plan the nursery i have neglected putting my thoughts into actions. but a few nurseries come to mind that have inspired me greatly to give you an idea of what i'm thinking. eulalie's and elodie's are two of my favorites. but sadly i am not as brave as their mamas and do not believe i could bring a white canvas to life quite like they do. i am thinking a little more rich saturation - along the lines of everly and arlo's room. i have a few paint swatches picked out with a color palette i hope to stick to no matter what baby's sex is. but i'm waiting til that fated ultrasound next tuesday to give me a little more direction.

this is what i'm working with.

i've removed about half of the 'junk' so we could make room for the crib. that's all the farther i've gotten. but you can see glimpses of the 1950's Lane cedar chest i scored and the bassinet i hope to keep in our room. along with tons of other rummage sale finds and my ironing.

link found a way in, before permanently removing him from the room i had to snap a pic. he loves his pillows and uses them accordingly. the crib is a black sleigh style. the paint swatches are a few of those i have in consideration along with some sage and spring greens. the artwork leaning in the back of the crib is some i've been collecting - chinatown print for our honeymoon in san francisco (i have a golden gate print in the living room) and the framed black-eyed susan is by kristin. you can see a peek of my yellow childhood quilt made by my great aunt velma in the upper right corner. she was quite the quilter and i believe she made one for each of us kids when we were little.

i recently found these embroidered beauties at goodwill and i adore them. i took a little ORB (oil rubbed bronze) to the frames and they have a new life. the umbrella scene is my favorite.
last but not least my baby, loving on her bed. you can see it in the nursery pic up top sitting with the ironing. for some reason the only items she has ever destroyed have been her blankets/bedding. this one was shredded in the first 12 hours of her taking possession of it. it took me months to get around to mending it and now she's only allowed near it when we can supervise her. i'm hoping she'll get used to not ripping it to shreds and we can eventually surrender it to her completely.

p.s. josh felt the baby this last week.

soooo exciting!!! where did you find your crib? i love the sleigh style beds, i can't wait to see the full picture of it. i love link sleeping in the baby bed, and petra loving her bed. adorable. i look forward to this room transforming.

oh you'll have so much fun with this! Love the embroideries and the cedar chest.

and how cute is your dog?? I have two dogs that were my total babies...and no matter how much you think you won't change how you feel about your dog... you do. It's a bit sad, but when bubba comes along, dog becomes very second rate... and you start to see them as a dog, not a baby. But they are fine with it because they have a new bubba to love (my dogs adore Lalie - it's very sweet).

excited to see the nursery progress.
And very exciting for Dad to feel the kicks!

okay enough rambling

thanks ladies!
katie - we ordered the crib online from wal-mart, it was reasonable and had good ratings. it's very pretty.

claire - it's hard to imagine how different life will be with our little one here and how animals will take a back seat. but i'm sure it's true. i only hope they will be good buddies and petra will love on him like she loves on our neighbor kids.

I know exactly how it feels to have neglected the nursery - Everly is 4 months old and we still haven't finished it (erm, started it!). She sleeps in our room so a nursery is kind of pointless at the moment anyway.

And I agree with Claire about the dogs. Our gorgeous Billy took a very big backseat once E came along! The poor thing took a while to adjust, and he still get's a bit sad when he doesn't get much attention, but I know when Everly is running around the backyard with him one day he will understand what all the fuss was about :)

Have fun with your nursery designing!
