character and charm

if you look out into our backyard you will see that the grove of trees is completely surrounded by a concrete slab. josh and i often pondered at it and wonder what would possess anybody to use concrete is such a way. i didn't mind it, it gave the backyard a unique charm. but it stumped us, until josh's grma took one look at it and said, "oh, there used to be farm building there." ahhh! it made so much sense. our development is about 15 years old and surrounded by farm land on two sides. the very front of the development has some huge trees while the rest is pretty flat and boring. we are the third house in and probably close to where the original farmhouse was. yay! so fun to learn the history of the area. i now love the concrete area even more, love wondering about what the outbuilding was for and what was situated where inside of it. i plan on trying to get to the historical society someday, see if they have any info on it and pics of the farm.

for now i just love our yard and taking care of all the perennials popping up and hopefully sowing our garden in a few weeks!
