learning to love

gazing out the kitchen window last evening i noticed two pheasant in the backyard and remarked to josh about how frequently i see them. up north it was not uncommon to come upon a partridge drumming in the woods, but where i live now pheasant are a commonplace site in the ditches and scuttling through the backyard. i have come to appreciate their beauty and welcome them as part of life in central MN. when i first moved here i missed the forests of northern MN, the lakes and the isolation. while my heart still yearns for the northwoods i'm learning to embrace the beauty and rich history of central MN. historic buildings and homes abound, sunsets stretch across a vast horizon and spring comes two weeks earlier.

i recall my mom telling of when she moved from farmland to wooded area as a newlywed - she felt claustrophobic, enclosed by the forest. when i moved i felt naked, lack of trees meant lack of privacy in my mind. all i know is my dream home definitely has a plethora of hardwoods.

I miss living up north too. Living in St. Paul sometimes makes me want to be around no people at all!

ahhh nadine. i do not envy you, although i'm sure iowa has its perks - like spring, what, a month or more early?

I had these same thoughts when Ryan and I spent the weekend in downtown Minneapolis. SO not the life for me..I love the plethora of trees that surround me.
