stillwater

last week we took a jaunt over to stillwater. we had a few days off and had made plans for a north shore camping trip complete with cart-in camping sites at tettegouche state park but had to cancel last minute due to some unforeseen events. if you have never been to stillwater it's definitely worth a trip. the town rests on the steep bluff banks of the st. croix river and it's full of old brick buildings turned boutiques/diners/antique stores. unfortunately it's a big tourist trap, so even on a tuesday afternoon it was buzzing and we only felt up to a few hours braving the busyness of it all.

we stuffed ourselves with yummy, reasonably priced food at leo's diner. the chicken wild rice soup was delicious but a bad choice on such a humid day. needless to say i felt sick by the time we left that evening - turns out hot, creamy soup and hot, humid days are a bad combo, who'd a thunk? they did have a unique deep-fried breadstick to accompany my entree though.

we bummed around at a few antique stores and i found some metal cookie cutters to use come christmas time. i really wanted to find a fun onesie for baby at one of the souvenir shops but the selection was not that great.

once again i took house pictures, there were so many beautiful homes to look at. we even took a country drive on a dirt road along the bluffs of the st. croix. beautiful land everywhere.

hanging out by the lift bridge
if we ever go again i would love to do an over-niter and stay at the water street inn or a local bed and breakfast and just wander the residential areas and play in the river.
